The Upper Room Mission is getting ready for Christmas. Its popular 'Fill-A-Backpack Campaign' is underway. Vernon residents can drop off a backpack full of items to be distributed to the city's less fortunate on Dec. 21st. Suggested items include socks, gloves, a toque, a small notepad and pens, a flashlight and toiletry items. “Please label your backpack either male or female and they will be given out during the Mission’s special Christmas Eve dinner, which will be held on Friday, Dec. 23rd," says Lisa Anderson, director of resource development at the Mission. Anderson says there are other ways to support the Upper Room Mission. “Gather some of your co-workers together, or make it a special family event, and put together a meal that you can serve up to those in need,” she suggests. “Monetary donations are always needed and greatly appreciated.” Anderson says the tax deductible donation can be made online, by sending a cheque, payable to Upper Room Mission, or or by stopping in at 3403-27th Avenue Vernon, BC V1T 1S2. For more information, contact Lisa Anderson at 250-549-1231 ext. 29 or email lisa.anderson@vernonurm.org.
