A scary incident for a Vernon family. The owner of a house in the 79-hundred block of Okanagan Landing Road woke up this morning and noticed a hole in a second story window. A bullet was found lodged in the wall of a room. Other residents in the area heard a gun shot around 2:30 this morning but no reports were made to police. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says it appears to have been a stray bullet as there was no reason to target the family living there. "They don't know why this residence should have been targeted. It appears to be a random, stray bullet. The residents are not known to police at all." Anyone with information is asked to call Vernon RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Shooting Was Drug Related Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Monday, 16 May 2011 11:19
Police say a shooting incident outside a Vernon convenience store was drug related. A 32 year old man was shot in the shoulder outside the 7-11 on 39th Avenue Friday night. He was jumping out of his vehicle after another man got in the car with him. Two other men punched him in the head and back near the store entrance. The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says it was not a random act of violence. "All parties involved knew each other. The incident revolved around the local drug trade." Three suspects--ranging in age from 27 to 40-- have been arrested, and will face assault charges. Two were apprehended a short time later, while the third was located Saturday. Molendyk says the third man arrested is alleged to be the shooter. The victim has been treated in hospital, and police say more charges could be laid, possibly even involving the victim who was also in the drug trade. All the suspects were from Vernon. Molendyk says the gun may have been hand-made. "There's varying reports on that. We're still following up and investigating." He wasn't sure if the gun was located.
