Spirit Square in the Civic Complex |
Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Friday, 15 June 2012 01:14 People taking in a downtown Vernon music event this summer will be able to respond to the call of nature. City council has agreed to cover the costs of providing washrooms for the Downtown Vernon Association's Civic Sounds concerts Thursday nights in the Civic Plaza. The city's building services manager Ian Currie told council, it will cost about $600 dollars for a student to supervise people needing to use the facilities in the council chambers foyer. City staff had recommended the city pass the cost onto the DVA, but that was not approved. Councillor Mary-Jo O'Keefe says a more permanent solution is needed given the number of people using that area, and she suggest having public washrooms in the old library building, once its renovated. She said, "We need public washrooms for every event we hold. A temporary solution won't work." O'Keefe commented perhaps a wall could be erected between the washrooms at the old library and the rest of the building which will be converted into office space for city staff. The washrooms will be provided Thursday nights starting July 5th and ending August 30th.
