Landing Sewer Fight Continues -07/11/06 http://www.vernon.thesun.net/node/380998
Vernon Council has voted not to help fund sewer connections in Okanagan Landing, but to work with residents to get them hooked up. Councillor Beardsell says there is a line in the referendum wording that mislead residents, but then goes on to say the sewer would be paid for by benefiting properties. Former Regional District area director, Alan Hill, says the city shouldn't rule out legal action. It could cost residents 15 to 20-thousand dollars to connect to what they say won't be a proper sewer system. Betty Selin, Standard Radio News

Vernon Councilor Patrick Nicol says Interior Health isn't planning for Vernon's rapidly growing population citing a presentation from Vernon Jubilee Hospital Doctors who pointed out, among other things, that Vernon gets short changed in the funding formula with respect to Salmon Arm residents using VJH but the funding goes to Salmon Arm. Vernon Jubilee Doctors went to city council two weeks ago asking for support on a number of key issues like funding all locations and Interior Health not building for the future. Vernon Council has now given that support and is asking to sit down with the doctors and the I.H.A. Bob Crouse Standard Radio News

Ellison Parkway -07/11/06 http://www.vernon.thesun.net/node/380997
Vernon Council has tabled the issue of the Ellison Parkway behind Longacre Drive in Okanagan Landing for two weeks. Resident Jim Inglis has gather 150 names on a petition and has given council other options. Councillors Cochrane and Beardsell disagree, they want to move ahead with the trail right away. City staff will look at the comments from the residents and talk to the developer, who's funding the 400-thousand dollar trail. Betty Selin, Standard Radio News
