The proposed Landscape Maintenance Bylaw is intended to apply to properties adjacent to several major road corridors throughout the City. The major roads in the City that have been selected at this time are: 32nd Street; Highway 97; 27th Street; 25th Avenue from Highway 6 west to Okanagan Landing Road; 30th Avenue from 27th Street west to 41st Street; 41st Street from 30th Avenue south to 25th Avenue; 43rd Avenue from Alexis Park Drive east to 27th Street; 48th Avenue; Highway 6; Okanagan Landing Road west to Paddlewheel Park and Kalamalka Lake Road.
The proposed bylaw includes sections related to maintenance of lawn areas, plant materials (tree, shrubs, etc.), ground cover materials and weeding. The proposed enforcement period of the Maintenance Bylaw is during the period between April 1st and September 1st each year.
It is intended that all existing landscaping will be maintained in accordance with landscape Maintenance Bylaw #5014. As properties are re-developed or upgraded then it is intended that new landscaping be installed in accordance with Landscape Standards Bylaw #5015 which includes a materials selection list. Copies of the draft Landscape Maintenance Bylaw #5014 and the draft Landscape Standards Bylaw #5015 are available on the City of Vernon website www.vernon.ca and are also available for viewing at City Hall (3400 – 30th Street). The City of Vernon requests your comments on the proposed bylaws prior to July 14th, 2006. All input will be presented to City Council for their consideration. Further public input is scheduled during the bylaw process after initial readings of the bylaw have been granted by Council. We anticipate that input session will take place in the later part of August.
