VJH Renovations Started & Liberals Announce Surplus

Health officials say an upgrade to Vernon Jubilee Hospital should be completed by November.A Kelowna company was awarded the one million dollar construction contract, with work now underway.Health Minister George Abbott says the project will ease some of the overcrowding pressure. Therenovation will involve relocating the Outpatient Department to another area within the hospital, allowing theEmergency Department to be expanded.As the renovations progress, measures will be taken to minimize disruption to the emergencydepartment , but Interior Health reminds people to use the ER wisely. Liberals Announce Surplus
N-D-P critic Rob Fleming says ordinary British Columbians are still feeling the pinch despite the Liberalgovernment posting a 3.1 billion dollar surplus.Fleming says, "This government has never missed and opportunity to gouge the public through increasedfees. MSP went up by 50% in 2002. This government has never acknowledged the financial burden thatplaced on British Columbians, and fees of every kind.''In releasing the province's audited books, B-C Finance Minister Carole Taylor called credited a strong economy, the lowest unemployment in 30 years and high commodity prices in helping deliver the three billion dollar surplus.
