The City of Vernon has received another cheque from its former mayor. On Thursday, a letter and a $500 cheque arrived from Sean Harvey as part of restitution to the city. "I give him credit for staying to his word of repaying the funds," said Mayor Wayne Lippert. This is the second payment in just over a month. On July 7, the city received a cheque from Harvey for $1,500. Harvey resigned as mayor in July 2005 after a criminal investigation into his expense account while he was in office. He is accused of submitting fraudulent expense claims for meals with public officials which never took place. The city has been seeking $18,000 from Harvey as part of restitution and it has currently received $5,250. Harvey is charged with fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday and it is anticipated that a plea will be entered at that time. The City of Vernon has not been contacted by Crown counsel as to what may occur in court. "There's been no information on where it's headed," Lippert said of the case. Harvey could not be reached for comment.
