Doctor Charged
A Vernon doctor is facing charges of aiding a patient to commit suicide.Dr. Ramesh Sharma faces charges which stem from an investigation that began in early July.It's alleged that Dr. Sharma was taking steps to assist a patient to commit suicide at a residential care facility in Vernon, when he was interrupted by staff.Interior Health's communications director Alison Paine say they are working closely with the police on the ongoing investigation."Dr Sharma is no longer working at any Interior Health facilities and has not been since we became aware of this incident."Dr. Sharma is expected to make a court appearance Tuesday.Both the RCMP and Interior Health say no further details will be released at this time as the matter is before the courts. Cash for Crystal Meth Program
The Provincial Government has granted $50 000 to the North Okanagan to run a Crystal Meth Project.The money will be used to train 20 people to identify the signs of Meth use and teach in-depth prevention programs.Project Co-ordinator Lisa Levesque says, in turn, those people will then spread what they've learnedthrough out the community through a series of workshops.Four area groups are taking part in the project including the Vernon Boys and Girls Club, the First Nations Friendship Centre, North Okanagan Youth and Family Services and the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre.Crystal Meth use is not considered to be very high in the North Okanagan.
