Greater Vernon is joining a valley-wide program aimed at reducing the impact of Canada Geese in public areas.The G-V-S-C will provide $20 000 to implement the plan which will include population control through egg addling and by using deterrence and scare techniques to relocate them from beaches and parks.
Vernon director Barry Beardsell would like to see residents do their part, as well.
He says,'If you are trying to bring down the population on the one hand, people are encouraging the population by feeding them. Its self defeating.' Geese droppings may have an impact on water quality, and are also not a welcome sight in parks. Greater Vernon will take part in the program on a one year trial basis and monitor the results.
