New Plans for Pricey Washroom KISS FM
Local politicians may have found a 'cheaper' solution to the washroom dilemma on the Sovereign park-land in Coldstream. The G-V-S-C will see if city and G-V-S staff can construct the building after earlier rejecting a private bid of $191 000. Chairman Gary Corner says the board has agreed to proceed-----but only if the project comes in at $165 000 or less. Corner says,'We don't want to compromise, I don't think, the look of the building. I think staff is pretty adamant on that. They want that building to fit in with the property the way it should fit in, you know, with the Sovereign house.' Vernon director Barry Beardsell says he wants to see what kind of quality they can get for the lower price, before agreeing to it.
Goose Solution
Greater Vernon is joining a valley-wide program aimed at reducing the impact of Canada Geese in public areas. The G-V-S-C will provide $20 000 to implement the plan which will include population control through egg addling and by using deterrence and scare techniques to relocate them from beaches and parks.
Vernon director Barry Beardsell would like to see residents do their part, as well.
He says,'If you are trying to bring down the population on the one hand, people are encouraging the population by feeding them. Its self defeating.' Geese droppings may have an impact on water quality, and are also not a welcome sight in parks. Greater Vernon will take part in the program on a one year trial basis and monitor the results.
