Centre nets large donation

As the Schubert Centre struggles with the taxman, some relief has been found to keep the facility feeling optimistic. One of the Schubert Centre Society’s lifetime members, Theresa Goertz, recently made a generous donation of $30,000.
Depending on the board’s decision of what the money will be used for, those funds could help the society pay a federal GST sales tax. The tax costs the centre approximately $20,000 annually and has recently been a concern for the society.
“That’s put us in a hole,” said manager Jack Gareb. Whether the funds help pay off some of the tax-caused debt or are used to renovate the facility washrooms, the donation will still be aiding the centre greatly, said Gareb. And this isn’t the first help the society has received from Goertz. “She’s given a lot of money to us,” said Gareb. “She’s given us this front desk, which cost about $10,000, she helped us with renovations on our kitchen, she furnished our boardroom, she’s just a real good donor.” The prior and current donations are Goertz’ way of keeping the centre an enjoyable place for herself and the many people who use the facility.
“I want to keep it up, I don’t like to see it rundown.”
