The Vernon School Board has decided its plan for Coldstream Elementary School. Superintendent Bob Peacock says the board will recommend to the Education Ministry that a new school be built on the current site. The other option was to build on a site on Middleton Mountain.Peacock says a feasibility study was conducted on the issue and one of the key issues was if the current site could hold a new school. He tells KISS FM, 'One of the other issues with the old site was whether or not the size of the site was large enough to hold a new school. The architect came in and said the new building was actually going to be quite a bit smaller, foot print wise, that the current one so there will be plenty of room for parking, playground and everything else.' Peacock says the new school will have an price tag of ten million dollars. If all the funding is secured from Victoria, the plan is to start construction in 2008.The Ministry had approved funding for a new school in Middleton so Peacock says they'll have to get approval for this new plan.
Construction would take about a year and a half and students would still be able to use the old school during the building period. (Pete McIntyre)
