Vernon Council Supports Liquor Stores The SUn FM
Vernon City Council has voted to support keeping downtown government liquor stores open. Local BCGEU rep, Wanda Klassen-Roth says it was extremely important to get the support of City Council, now it is in the hands of Minister Jon Les. Almost 53-hundred people signed the petition, which means they have ten percent of the City saying 'no'. The government has decided to close the downtown stores. Renovations are underway for a new specialty store in the Village Green Mall.

The City of Vernon may need to improve it's financial reporting system after questionable expenditures. City Councillor, Barry Beardsell says he will take it upon himself to look into the 2005 expenditures to find where the extra 65-thousand-dollars spent on furniture went . Beardsell says he'll scream from the rooftops if he cannot find where the questionable expenses went. Vernon's new Finance Manager, Rob Mayne says with his eight years experience with the City of Kelowna he recognizes room for improvement.
