A recent Century 21 Canada study ranked Thunder Bay as Canada's least expensive major housing market, with a five-year price appreciation of just 12 per cent (compared to the most expensive, Vernon, B.C. at 129 per cent). The city of 120,000 on the north shore of Lake Superior has embarked on a ten-year plan to redevelop its 52 kilometres of waterfront alongside the world's largest freshwater lake.
