Local CUPE Workers Want Respect

Civic workers in Armstrong and Spallumcheen will be seeking a substantial pay boost ina new labour deal. Bargaining is expected to begin this month for the 30 workers with the city of Armstrong,Parks and Rec Commission, and the township of Spallumcheen. CUPE local 2709 President Darcy Whalley says the employees have joined forces to ensurethey get a wage hike that properly respects their needs, although he doesn't give an actual figure. The CUPE members work as clerks, lifeguards and in sanitation collection, among other duties.(Pete McIntyre)
