Hotel Tax
Greater Vernon is not collecting hotel tax, like other cities in the Valley and could be missing thousands of dollars. Penticton spends over a million whereas GVS spends under eighty-one thousand dollars annually on tourism marketing.
Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert says, it's complicated for the GVS to collect hotel tax because we work with the other districts outside of the ity. Evaluation reports will be discussed at the GVS meeting in January.

RCMP Responds to DVA Safety Concerns
The head of the Vernon RCMP Detachment takes exception to some of the claims the Downtown Vernon Association made with regard to safety concerns in the city centre.Inspector Clair Hayward says they've only had 16 complaints from the Parkade in the past two years. Hayward says the group's request for more police officers isn't the solution to all the problems, which he says are caused by drug abuse. He says the four pillar approach is the way to go, but health and education need to come before enforcement and that means treatment facilities and educating young people.
