Continued GVSC Concerns

http://www.1075kiss.com/news/headlines/
Local politicians have agreed to try and work through concerns about the new role of the Greater Vernon Services Committee. The issue was debated for more than an
hour at yesterday's GVSC meeting.Vernon reps say the new system could slow down the approval process for parks and water issues, and recommendations may not be followed through by NORD. Coldstream's Mary Malerby feels there are ways to work around the concerns.'There's some mistrust and things happening around GVSC at the moment, but I think its lack of understanding as opposed toa real mistrust or a real thing that has happened to cause a mistrust.' NORD chairman Jerry Oglow says the main goal of the new system is to put service to the people first, instead of internal squabbles. He says consideration will be given to holding two NORD meetings a month, to improve efficiency.(Pete McIntyre)
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Don Quixote Note:
Currently, politicians sitting on the commission receive an indemnity of $1,438 (the chairman receives $5,660) plus an additional $127 per meeting they attend. If a member attended all 17 meetings last year they would have pocketed at least $3,597. As members of a Greater Vernon committee, however, the member politicians would not receive an indemnity and would receive just $96 per meeting or $1,632 for perfect attendance. (Total Saving will be $14,815. (1x5660+6x1438+31x17)
To improve efficiency with 2 NORD meetings per month or an additional 12 per year will cost 127 x13 = $1,651 per meeting or $19,812. Efficiency will cost taxpayers almost $5000. (assuming NORD members only get $127 per meeting.)
