The future of Greater Vernon Services will be discussed at a special meeting early in the new year. The meeting will give city, Coldstream and Area B and C reps a chance of express their vision of the agency, which recently was stripped of its authority by the regional district. Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert would like to see the GVSC regain its authority, but with a clearer process. He says 60 percent of NORD's budget is for Greater Vernon issues."So it doesn't make a whole lot of sense forall of the members of the regional district board to sit over top and micro manage what Greater Vernon Services has done. They (NORD) need to be aware of it and this committee structure should accomplish that." NORD chair Jerry Oglow was asked if he would like to see GVS regain some of its authority to make some final decisions. "I think there's an opportunity for all of us to share some ideas. I know the regional district staff have been working on some suggestions and we hope to be able to table that at the meeting on the 4-th for a good healthy debate about what's possible and what's not." The meeting will be held January 4-th (8am) in the Marie Fleming Hall at the Performing Arts Centre. (Pete McIntyre)
