What if Campbell quits? Our top contenders

Canda.com Michael Smyth and Ian Bailey, The Province
Premier Gordon Campbell says he isn't going anywhere, anytime soon, and that he will seek a third term in 2009. But in a recent chat with The Province, he also left open the possibility of quitting politics any day "if I wake up enough days in a row, and think to myself, 'What the heck am I doing this for?'" So what if? Here -- from Province political columnist Michael Smyth and political reporter Ian Bailey -- is a list of leading Liberals who might be seen as Campbell's successors (in no particular order):

1. Finance Minister Carole Taylor:

2. Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon

3. Attorney-General Wally Oppal

4. Economic Development Minister Colin Hansen

5. Aboriginal Relations Minister Mike de Jong

6. Forests Minister Rich Coleman

7. Solicitor-General John Les:

8. Children and Family Development Minister Tom Christensen: If Liberals were looking for a fresh face, they might turn to the Okanagan-Vernon MLA, a former lawyer now in the challenging children's ministry. He was previously education minister and aboriginal relations' minister.

9/10. Outsiders: Former deputy premier Christy Clark and former attorney general Geoff Plant
