Canada's New Government Supports the Tellqelmucw Secwepemc Heritage Society CHASE, BC, Jan. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Colin Mayes, Member of Parliament (Okanagan-Shuswap), today announced funding of $49,968 for the Tellqelmucw Secwepemc Heritage Society. The funds will help the Society create a website to offer young Canadians a virtual journey through the Secwepemc territory.
"Canada's New Government is committed to our young people and, by providing resources for the community, this project will promote the language and culture of the Secwepemc people," said Minister Oda.
"Our support will contribute to the development of interactive online learning material for Secwepemc language immersion programs for students from pre-school to grade nine," said Mr. Mayes. "The community will have an opportunity to contribute their traditional knowledge and to showcase their rich cultural and linguistic resources."
