Residents Provide Cummins Road Solutions

Residents of an Okanagan Landing neighborhood are willing to work with the city,to avoid having more traffic in their area. The city is considering connecting Cummins Road with Lakeshore Drive as part of the Waterfront Plan. Those that live on the road have joined forces with the Strand Resort to present new ideas for the area. Spokesman Bruce Stobbe says they'd like to see the Lakers clubhouse torn down and turned into a park. 'We can see that going there instead of possibly the rezoning of it to become a four-plex.'

Councillor Juliette Cunningham disagrees with the idea of moving the Elks hall into the old Lakers clubhouse. 'I think the motivation for it being placed there because of something that is happening here and personally I don't think that is a good enough reason. It doesn't make sense to me.' Resident Joel Ellams presented council with several ideas on how to proceed with the plan without going through their neighborhood. 'We don't want the road going right through the community. We feel we can pu the road around it, tie us all in together. We think that because there is going to be a lot of families in there it would make a lot more sense to put the road network around.' Mayor Wayne Lippert says council will be reviewing the waterfront plan and the residents suggestions.
