The price of development in Enderby is going up. Council gave three readings to bylaws Monday that will see the cost for various fees increase. “We’re certainly not making money but there is a cost involved to process the applications,” said Mayor Sue Phillips. Currently, development permit applications cost $240, but once the bylaws are adopted, that will climb to $330. A development variance permit fee will go from $240 to $450 while zoning applications will climb from $750 to $1,000. Anyone applying for an official community plan amendment will see the fee increase from $750 to $1,000.
Phillips said it’s necessary for the city to cover its costs for processing such applications, such as staff reviewing the matter and developing a report for council. The change in fees came after a review of how other local communities handle the situation. “We’re in line with Armstrong and Lumby but a little bit lower,” said Phillips. In Armstrong, a development permit costs $500 while $1,000 in Lumby, $240 in Spallumcheen and $330 in the electoral areas of the North Okanagan Regional District.
