Possibility that Vernon could become an important link in the province's air transport system through the building of an entirely new airport has been voiced by Mayor Frank Becker. Two major airlines have promised they would use such an airport, Mayor Becker told the Vernon Board of Trade.

"Our present airport is inadequate for future needs, and we are unable to extend it, " he said. "The proposed site would enable runways to be built 8,000 feet long, capable of handling any air traffic which is likely to come our way."

Considering Vernon's location midway between Edmonton and Vancouver, a new airport would really put the city "on the map" Mayor Becker said. "We could serve the whole of central B.C.
