The future appears brighter for the Vernon Women's Centre. The agency that helps low income and women in poverty was in danger of closing last year due to a lack of funding, but administrative coordinator Anne Forrest says the prospects have improved. 'The community has donated a fair amount of money and we've been solicited by other agencies and other foundations to put in grant applications for specific grants and I'm pretty encouraged by that.' Forrest says the centre's recent role in helping to open the women's shelter has led to more interest, and some new board members. Vernon business-owner and city councillor Juliette Cunningham is the new chair of the centre's board of directors.
