Commissionaires Out? Kelowna

A change could be coming, in who enforces Kelowna's on and off-street parking regulations. At Monday's meeting, city council will consider approving a new contract with Imperial Parking. If successful, the private-sector firm would replace the Corps of Commissionaires, as the city's official enforcers of parking meters and parking lots. Impark's bid for the enforcement services comes to just under $450,000 per year, with a five year term on the contract. The Commissionaires, who have enforced the city's parking rules since 2000, submitted a bid that was close to $800,000 higher, over a five year term. Imperial Parking would be expected to establish a street front office for issuing parking permits and collecting fines. Their parking patrollers would be in uniform.
