A North Shuswap Candidate for the Okanagan Shuswap Federal Liberal nomination says people of all stripes have suffered significantly during this year of federal cuts. According to Jake Ootes of Celista, seniors and others have seen substantial financial losses from the income trust broken promise by the conservatives and students face increased costs and less support. He says students will also now have more difficulty getting summer jobs because the Tories cut millions from the Summer Career Placement Program. He adds that no new child-care spaces have been created and women's groups have had millions of dollars cut from their programs.
As a Liberal nomination candidate Jake Ootes of Celista says the constituency association is well prepared and organized to support the successful Liberal nominee in the event of an election.
A general meeting of the Constituency Association is set for the morning of March 31st in Vernon and an afternoon session in Salmon Arm. That'll be followed by the Annual General Meeting that day in Salmon Arm. Jake Ootes says a Member of Parliament must be responsive and sensitive to the needs of all people and organizations. A candidate for the Okanagan Shuswap Federal Liberal Nomination, Ootes says its a large and diversified constituency and an MP plays a significant role in the vibrancy of its economy, business development and the social and environmental well being.
He says its been a lost year for man and its not acceptable for the people of the constituency who are left with less money and fewer opportunities, adding, he "wants to speak for them."
Ootes is a former MLA and Cabinet Minister in the Northwest Territories and before his 20-years as owner/publisher of a group of weekly newspapers and magazines, he worked as a public information officer for the Department of Northern Affairs in Ottawa and later Director of Information for the Government of the Northwest Territories.
