About 150 people came out in Vernon to hear the new leader of the federal Liberals. Stephane Dion outlined his vision, and took questions for over an hour at the Performing Arts Centre yesterday. 'What I want for my country is to be sure that Canada will be the country that will, more than any other country in the world why not,be ambitious.' Dion told the media afterwards, the Harper government's plan to lower the GST from 6 to 5 percent is a mistake. 'I will not decrease the GST by additional point its 5.5 billion every year. I will invest it to fight poverty for the child tax benefit, which is the way to families with children that are in poverty, social housing and homelessness.'

Dion also said the Harper government is not doing enough about the pine beetle problem, 'The conservative government said 'We'll do more. We'll give (the pine beetle problem) 1 billion dollars over 10 years.' But after more than a year almost not a penny came to the communities.' Dion does still think there's a chance of a spring election.

The 51 year old from Quebec was joined on stage by Liberal M-P and former B-C Premier UjjalDosanjh, and local candidate Buffy Baumbrough. Those who attended seemed to have a positive reaction the the Liberal leader. Manysaid they liked him better after having seen him in person calling him, 'a breath of fresh air' a 'first rate speaker' and a 'real vision for Canada.'some people had to say after getting their first chance to see and hear Dion in person.
Dion also had stops yesterday in Kamloops and Kelowna.
