VERNON – The North Okanagan Regional District is receiving a $71,800 grant, through the first round of the provincial government’s LocalMotion program, to build a 2.9 km hiking and mountain biking trail in Grey Canal, Okanagan-Vernon MLA Tom Christensen announced today. "Our strategy is to encourage people to explore the beautiful outdoor resources that are right at their fingertips," said Christensen. "This is the most significant trail in the Greater Vernon trail system plan. When this project is completed, the Grey Canal will boast 40km of trails for public use." The trail will provide a smooth surface and boardwalks in sections. The trail will connect to the BX Creek trail which will eventually run from Swan Lake to Silver Star Mountain Resort. twenty-eight communities across British Columbia will share almost $20 million in this first round of LocalMotion funding to build bicycle paths, trails, walkways, support community playgrounds and improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
