The interim label has been removed from the officer in charge of the Vernon RCMP. Inspector Steve McVarnock's temporary posting to the Vernon and North Okanagan detachments has now been made permanent. The 45 year old McVarnock has been in Vernon the last four months after transferring from Kelowna. Upon his arrival in December, he told the media he would like to remain in the city for up to five years. The decision to make his posting permanent was made by the RCMP with input from Vernon city council.
