Greater Vernon’s former economic development manager will get almost $35,000 in severance. A Freedom of Information request from The Morning Star indicates that Dave Forai will receive $34,930 from the North Okanagan Regional District. “We are pleased to have it resolved and we wish Dave well in the future,” said Brian Reardon, NORD administrator. Forai had been employed by the regional district since 2001. He left the position in February. “Both sides are happy with the agreement. I’m happy with it,” said Forai when contacted. The settlement agreement consists of three components. “He will be able to utilize sick leave until he is well. That could extend until the end of May,” said Reardon. After that, Forai will continue to be on the payroll for three months as specified in his employment contract.
He has also been provided with a $500 allowance to seek legal opinion. Three months of pay will amount to about $17,215 while there is about three months of accrued sick leave or $17,215. At the time of his departure, NORD stated Forai was officially on medical leave. However, some politicians indicated that they weren’t aware of the departure being medical related. The regional district is currently in the midst of trying to fill the vacant economic development manager position. As of Friday, NORD had made an offer to a preferred candidate but the proposed contract agreement had not been signed. About 28 people applied for the position. Until a new manager is hired, existing Greater Vernon Services Committee staff are handling economic development issues.
