Liberal MLA's are keeping quiet on a Commission report recommending hefty pay raises for B.C. politicians. In a report released Tuesday, a three member government appointed committee recommended MLA's receive a 29 per cent raise. The pay increase was one of 18 different recommendations outlined in the report. Contacted at his office in Victoria, Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Al Horning, says he had not yet had a chance to look at the report. "I'm just looking at it now for the first time. It wouldn't be fair for me to comment on it until I have had a chance to go through the entire report," says Horning. He says the government will be discussing the report during Wednesday night's caucus meeting and will comment after that. Kelowna-Mission MLA, Sindi Hawkins is also mulling over the report. Okanagan-Westside MLA Rick Thorpe was unavailable for comment. Meantime, the opposition NDP has already come out against the increase. NDP leader, Carole James, says the pay hike is too rich and it should be shelved.
