Tax Increase Not as Much as Expected

Vernon council is expected to approve it's 2007 tax rate at a meeting on Monday. Mayor Wayne Lippert says, if the bylaw is adopted as presented, the tax rate for utility companies would go up, and the business rate would decrease. He says the tax hike for residential taxpayers would be 1.1 percent, down from the earlier projection of two percent. The mayor say council worked hard to bring the rate down for residents and businesses.
