A Vernon business group will try again to get city funding for its private security patrols. The Downtown Vernon Association sought 40-thousand dollars back in March, but council tabled the request to allow for more discussion with law enforcement officials. Executive director Earl Hansen says they'll be making another pitch for funding at a presentation to council August 13-th. 'The BC Commisionaires, the private security patrols the DVA arranged have played a valuable part in the process that's resulted in our downtown area being, in many respects, safer than it was about a year ago.' Hansen says the more than 30-thousand dollars donated by businesses for the patrols, runs out at the end of August. The service costs 8-thousand dollars a month, and runs in cooperation with the police and bylaw officers.
