Vernon & Districts Taxpayers' Association NEWS RELEASE re Alternate Approval counter petition opportunity !

On Monday July 16th a group of Vernon Taxpayers shall go to City Hall at 10AM to collect from the City Clerk enough forms for 5000 signatures
On June26th at an Emergency Public Meeting called by the Vernon & Districts Taxpayers' Association a motion calling for the Petition opposing the 'ALTERNATE APPROVAL FINANCING'-which is required by Law-passed with a massive show of support
The taxpayers Association have decided to assist fellow taxpayers and council by ensuring that ALL taxpayers and Voters living in Vernon shall be informed and assisted in every possible way to exercise their rights by voting in this crucial petition
The Taxpayers' Association deeply regrets that the Vernon Council with the exception of councillor Beardsell have refused to serve their constituents by putting the proposal of the library/civic complex to a REFERENDUM It is the right of taxpayers to have a say directly and with an anonymous democratic vote as to how their TAX DOLLARS are spent The Mayor and Vernon council have not only denied taxpayers their right to a REFERENDUM vote but they also have publicly stated they will proceed regardless of a successful petition and have proceeded to appoint an architectural firm who will cost the taxpayers at least another million dollars before even a petition process required by law has begun.
The Taxpayers therefore will use the thirty days allotted to them to raise the required number of signatures to put a stop to this undemocratic process Starting Tuesday July 16th ALL VERNON CITIZENS will be able to fill, out petition forms at the following locations
