Regular Meeting Council Highlights 1:30 Monday Aug 13

  • DVA presented Review of Commissionaires Program. Result was a meeting to be setup with Council, RCMP, Bylaw and DVA to discuss further action and funding etc. (The Council took this action without getting a unanimous vote to discuss the matter as is the Delegation normal policy which is to wait 2 weeks for Council's answer.)
  • The rabbit control issue was passed as a 1 time grant of $2000. A wrench was thrown in by the Bylaw officer that Provincial regulations might preclude "invasive" species being trapped by anyone but a professional trapper. (Report next meeting forthcoming).
  • The EKISTICS TOWN PLANNING INC. – OCP AMENDMENT APPLICATION FOR 9650 EASTSIDE ROAD AND REZONING APPLICATION FOR 9609 and 9650 EASTSIDE ROAD caused some parliamentary wrangling. A resolution to NOT proceed by Coun Beardsell failed on a 3-3 tie vote. (Cunningham and Baumbrough supported resolution.) A deferral resolution until Council had a full compliment of 7 was also defeated by the same 3-3 tie vote. This meant that nether resolution was passed and it effect neither happened. You can expect this item back on the Agenda at the next Council Meeting on Aug. 27.
  • The decision to NOT appoint scrutineers for the Alternate Approval Process petition count was debated and passed unanimously. Privacy concerns were the main reason for the rejection and I concur with this decision.
  • Although Council saw no reason no proceed with a Service Review for Greater Vernon Governance until the results of the Service Reviews on the main Component parts (Parks and Water etc) were complete they did appoint the Mayor as the Vernon representative on this service review when it occurs. (The residential status of appointments of this nature was not debated ?)

Why should you not call it the way it is. The mayor does not live in Vernon and presumably does not own a business in Vernon, so how can he represent our interests with the electoral areas?
