Mistrust Hampers GVS Relationships

(Pete McIntyre) 107.5 Kiss FM

Greater Vernon's rural reps vented some frustrations with the city of Vernon at yesterday's NORD meeting. The Area B and C directors accused the city of being dishonest over a meeting earlier this summer with Community Services Minister Ida Chong. Stan Field was upset at a confidential document that showed Vernon council would support the province imposing amalgamation on Areas B and C. However, director Juliette Cunningham pointed out the city would only proceed on that course if the results of a governance study determined that was appropriate. 'I guess the bottom line is, its pretty clear in there, is as a result of the governance study, if that was something that was imposed by the province at that point - well then yes we would accept them into the city of Vernon.' NORD chairman Jerry Oglow is concerned about the ongoing tensions within Greater Vernon, but says the hiring of a mediator should help address some of the issues. (Pete McIntyre)
