New Film Commissioner

by Wayne Moore -Sept. 19, 2007 Castanet
Shaak is out -- Summerland is in. Jon Summerland is the new Okanagan Film Commissioner, replacing Sara Shaak who held the post for five years. Shaak left the commission to open her own company. Summerland has spent more than 15 years in the film industry, most recently as a location manager in Vancouver. "I'm excited about the opportunity," says Summerland. "It is my understanding that this past year has seen an unprecedented number of inquiries and film production activity generating millions of dollars of economic impact in the region." "Sara did a great job and I'm looking forward to utilizing my networks in the industry to continue to develop this region as a go to place for the film industry." Commission Chairperson, Joyce Wegner, says the OFC is also working on the possibility of a private/public sector partnership to create a film studio in the region within the next two years.

I thought that when Beardsell questionned them before at City Council that they said they would not use public money for such a venture!
