Coquitlam’s gaming pot grew by more than $2.5 million last week.The windfall from the Boulevard Casino was for the quarter running from July 1 to Sept. 30. This year, the city has collected $7.5 million from the United Boulevard attraction as part of its 10% cut from net profits.Last year, Coquitlam collected $9 million from Boulevard — its best year since the casino opened in October 2001.To date, Coquitlam has collected about $40 million — 12.5% of which goes into a community capital fund for local non-profit groups and the balance into a municipal capital fund to pay for major projects such as roads and sports facilities, like Chimo Pool and the Dr. Charles Best secondary field.City council is expected to hand out its next round of community capital grants within the next few weeks.
