The Provincial government has come through with nearly a quarter of a million dollars in funding for two temporary emergency shelters in Vernon. The Social Planning Council's Annette Sharkey says, with the cold weather coming their main concern was to get people inside while they plan a long term solution."More than likely the temporary shelters will go throughout the winter. That gives time to complete negotiations on the location and renovations on the permanent site." The 15 -bed temporary women's shelter will open this weekend and operate out of the Salvation Army on 32nd Ave.. The temporary men's shelter will open in November and be located at the John Howard Society's current location.
