Emergency Shelter for Men Opens

Starlee Speers, Astral Media Radio News

The Emergency Shelter for men opened in Vernon this week after staffing issues caused a minor delay.Executive Director for the Howard House, Barb Levesque says, the 10 mats haven't been full yet but they will be soon."Always when we start a new program it takes a few days for word to get out on the street. We've made sure that the normal contacts that homeless people have in the community such as the Upper Room Mission and the Street Nurse clinic know that we're open now."The emergency shelter for women opened last month and plans are still being worked out for a permanent shelter in Vernon. Levesque says, the men's shelter is always looking for donations of men's boots and winter clothing.
