Foord To Receive City Honour

The city of Vernon will add another member to its prestigious list of honoured citizens next week. Tom Foord will be presented with the Freedom of the City at a special meeting of city council Wednesday morning. The 85 year old Foord founded Kal Tire more than 50 years ago, which has grown into a major company with operations from BC to Ontario. Foord will be the first Freedom recipient since David Kinloch in 2002. Others to receive it include Art and Agnes Sovereign, John Topping, Neil Davidson and the Vernon Girls Trumpet Band.Its the highest civic tribute that can be bestowed by the city on individuals or organizations, and recognizes outstanding community contribution.

The Freedom of the City is the highest civic tribute bestowed by the City of Vernon by unanimous decision of City Council. The honour is awarded to individuals or organizations recognizing outstanding community contribution.
