Mayor will be busy representing Vernon taxpayers this week !

The 12-member committee has until next March to come up with new governance ideas for the valley, as requested by the BC government. The next meeting will be December 19 in Penticton. The regional district board members from through out the valley will meet in Vernon (Vernon Lodge) January 11.

The Mayor and his Council representatives, (either the 2007 old crew of Baumbough and Beardsell or perhaps his new 2008 crew of Baumbrough and Cochrane ?) will try to bring the matter of the underbilled $700,000 that NORD owes Vernon to the table. "What I understand from staff, using the Regional District policy, the City of Vernon should be getting an extra $716 000, approximately, that it has not been receiving."Lippert says the issue will be discussed at this week's Greater Vernon Services meeting.

As this will have a great effect on Vernon's 2008 budget and the taxes we will pay we would expect some spirited debate by his worship and Vernon's GVSC members. (I hope they negotiate better than what they did with the Casino Relocation.)
