The former mayor of Vernon intends to plead guilty to fraud charges.

Vernon's former mayor Sean Harvey will plead guilty to two counts of fraud and forgery according to his lawyer. Ian McTavish says, he'll be arguing for a fine rather than any prison time for Harvey. "He doesn't need to go to jail at all. And society doesn't need to have the expense of putting him in jail."Sean Harvey had previously been charged with 5 counts of criminal fraud and one count of forgery.The charges stem from dealings Harvey had with a former business partner. Vernon dentist Chris Laidlaw alleges he was ripped off for more than $50, 000 dollars.

It appears Sean Harvey will be pleading guilty to the new charges he's accused of.The former Vernon mayor was in court today facing five counts of fraud and one of forgery over dealings with former business partner, Dr. Chris Laidlaw.Harvey's lawyer, Ian McTavish, told the media, Crown counsel has agreed to reduce the six counts, to two, if Harvey pleads guilty to forgery and fraud.McTavish says it's anticipated Harvey will do that at his next court appearance.The Salmon Arm lawyer says he'll be arguing for a fine when sentencing is held, likely in February. "He doesn't need to go to jail at all. And society doesn't need to have the expense of putting him in jail. He's learned his lesson. It was a very tough lesson and he's in good shape right now."Harvey had no comment for the media today.He spent a week in jail in January after breaching terms of his conditional sentence for breach of trust.Harvey stepped down as mayor in 2005 after using a city credit card for 13-thousand dollars in personal expenses.
