Summerland Cultural Complex including Library, Museum, Residential and Commercial space !

Wharton Street Re Development Summerland
Wharton Street Redevelopment In 2006, Municipal called for Expression of Interest for the re-development of Wharton Street. Three proposals were received and the proposal of New Future Development was selected

New Futures Building Group held a public information meeting on November 27 to present a site plan for the Wharton Street Redevelopment Project. The development team also presented drawings for the first phase of the project that includes residential and commercial units. The developers will be entering into an agreement with the Okanagan Regional Library to provide space for a new library facility. The project will be going through a rezoning process over the next few months and at which time the public will have opportunity to provide additional comments on the development. The drawings will be set-up at the Municipal Hall for the next several weeks, please drop by and have staff answer your questions.

From the Expressions of interest:
Final phases include a combination of commercial space along the south side of the realigned Wharton Street, residential development, a cultural centre that will include a museum, common amenity space for various public uses and the long- term home of the Library. There is tremendous community support for this project.

Provision for 8000 square feet of commercial space for purchase by strata for the Library at a fair market value. This commercial space would be a turn-key operation that includes standard finishing; lighting, carpets, moldings etc. Library fixtures are not part of the RFP.

Time Frame – This project is one of the top priorities for Mayor and Council. Staff have been working to ensure a completion date and occupation permit for the building in parcel A for June 2008.
