Vernon RCMP will meet with City officials, community groups and business organizations in early February to hear the concerns of the community. Vernon RCMP Inspector, Steve McVarnock, says he wants to get input directly from those they serve. "We feel that open dialogues are but one part in our ongoing consultation process with clients and stakeholders," says McVarnock. "Participants will be asked to consider how important a number of policing actions and services are, including communications, consultation and accountability actions." McVarnock says areas of concern would be identified as well as possible solutions. "This approach gives this detachment an indication of not just what is important to clients and stakeholders, but also the opportunity to discuss matters that are of greatest importance and develop action plans to address these concerns." The meeting will be facilitated by a member of the RCMP Planning and Development Unit Operations Strategy Branch out of Vancouver. McVarnock says the meeting will be held Wednesday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in the conference room at the Vernon Fire Hall. Groups wishing to attend the meeting should contact Marci Pierce at 260-7112 by January 30.
