A senior federal politician will be in the North Okanagan today to find out more about local issues of concern. Hedy Fry, chairman of the Liberal’s B.C. caucus, will meet with business and government representatives, as well as non-profit groups, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the People Place in Vernon.“A round table discussion on our regional concerns is planned during her visit,” said Dawn Lasby, with the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the event. It’s expected that the topics will include the pine beetle infestation, forestry, agriculture, transportation, attainable housing and the skills shortage facing many businesses.“She wants to better understand regional issues,” said Buffy Baumbrough, the Liberal candidate for Okanagan-Shuswap. Baumbrough is pleased to see Fry making a stop in Vernon.“This is part of a tour of the Okanagan she is taking,” she said.Baumbrough will have a chance to meet with Fry about local issues but she would not get into the specifics. “I will be having a discussion with her but her intent is to hear from the community,” said Baumbrough. Fry is MP for Vancouver Centre and was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.She is currently critic for sports and the 2010 Olympics in the Liberal caucus.

Meet with Fry about local issues but will not get into the specifics! Well, perhaps she can tell us the general topics she will discuss. Not likely, unless she can dream some up in a hurry. She certainly does not impress anyone as a good candidate for office
