Committee will look at council pay

A committee will look into remuneration paid to Kelowna's Mayor and City Councillors. Council passed a bylaw Monday morning endorsing the establishment of the three-member committee to review council remuneration. Traditionally, a review takes place early in an election year. The last review took place in the spring of 2005, just prior to the November 2005 municipal elections. In 2008, the Mayor receives $85,797.76, while each of the eight Councillors are paid $28,313.26, one-third of the mayor's salary. The report is expected to be complete later this spring. Council does have the option of accepting or rejecting the recommendations. The new pay scale, if adopted, would not take effect until after the municipal elections in November.
