The Vernon & Districts Taxpayers' Association is prepared to take up the Mayor's proposal for a citizens' committee. The Association offers
the Mayor and Vernon City Council to set up and coordinate citizen
and group meetings in order to come up with plans and policy directions regarding community cultural needs and the needs of administrative agencies such as the RCMP. The Mayor must resist the temptation to appoint his own committee. Instead, the Association proposes to approach fellow citizens with vision and the good of the Community at heart who would be helpful in this process. The Association will then propose a final committee to the City Council for its approval. The Association proposes to conduct public meetings that will end with a reflection of the majority public opinion in the Vernon and Districts areas. The Association commends the Mayor for finally acknowledging the need for citizen participation at the beginning of the decision making process to meet community needs with the backing of a majority of citizens. The need for citizens to be actively involved in capital expenditures and policy decision making has finally been understood by Mayor Lippert. The Association is hereby relaying this message to Mayor Lippert and Council today and we look forward to having discussions with Council to move forward with this proposal immediately.Contact: Antony Stamboulieh 260-1082

Whoopsie-daisy. They've got you over a barrel now, Wayne. You played right into their hands. Try to refuse this offer now and see how that impacts you publically. Name your own committee and these people will snipe at it and question its legitimacy. Allow it and you have given control of the public process that you were elected to preside over to your greatest detractors, who also happen not to be elected or have a constituency. As long as they were sniping at you from the sidelines you had an opportunity to control the damage. Now that control is effectively gone.
The Vernon and districts Taxpayers'Association have proven TWICE in six months that they have the MAJORITY CONSTITUENCY as opposed to Mayor Lippert's and his cohorts FRINGE CONSTITUENCY!
The results do the talking!!
WHY..
Because the Taxpayers pay the bills and it is their Right and duty to watch the dollars!
