The North Okanagan Naturalists' Club is raising concerns about the City of Vernon's draft transportation plan. Spokesperson, Jim Bodkin says they're opposed to a by-pass that would go on the Bella Vista Hillsides. The Club says the city has to look after roads, but they shouldn't be looking at the Western By-pass when the Ministry of Transportation doesn't support it. Bodkin says they want to see a hillside Grasslands Park created because the area is too ecologically important as habitat for several species to be opened up for further development, which he says would come with a new road.He says grasslands are rapidly disappearing in BC and the city has endorsed the call for a Grasslands Park in the North Okanagan and residents want green space protected.
