The Vernon Taxpayers Association is calling on the Mayor to resist the temptation to appoint his own citizen's committee. Mayor Wayne Lippert proposed the creation of a committee to look at the city's cultural and staffing needs at council this week. Spokesman Tony Stamboulieh says they want to choose who sits on the committee. He says instead the association proposes to approach fellow citizens with vision and the good of the community at heart. Stamboulieh says, the association clearly reflects the majority of opinion as demonstrated by the overwhelming no on the civic complex referendum. The referendum to build a library civic complex in Vernon failed last month.He says, they'd compose a list after conducting public meetings which would then have final approval from the mayor and council.
