City and GVS get next chance at West Vernon site

107.5 KISSFM Pete McIntyre

Local government will get the next chance to purchase and use the former West Vernon school site. Vernon School District secretary treasurer Randy Hoffman says the provincial government didn't make a claim for the property, meaning it now goes to the next level. Hoffman tells KISS FM, "The school district is now free to begin local government consultation for the West Vernon property, and other than zoning and land use, there's no restrictions in terms of what local government may wish to use the property for." Hoffman was surprised the province didn't make a bid for the site."They certainly showed interest earlier on in the process but the time line has now lapsed." The city of Vernon and Greater Vernon Services will have four months to decide their interest. The price tag for the land and building isn't being released. Hoffman says the North Okanagan Child Care Society that's using the school for a day care, has had its lease extended until July 2009.

Fabulous! Another opportunity for the gang that couldn't shoot straight to mess it up again. After what happened with Fulton School, watch the buffoonery begin. First thing is, they'll check the building and find out they can't actually do anything with it except use it for a school unless they want to spend huge bucks upgrading it for whatever use. Maybe they should negotiate the re-use cost into the sale price of the building. In any event the results should be hilarious, stay tuned.
